The Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB)

SGB is an injection of a local anesthetic into the stellate ganglion, a nerve bundle in the neck connected to the sympathetic chain, to calm the overactive fight or flight response that causes PTSD.

What is SGB?

SAFE

100yr+ history with virtually no lasting side-effects. Ultrasound guided.

IMMEDIATE

Typically same day relief of symptoms.

CONVENIENT

<30 min outpatient procedure.

EFFICACIOUS

Over 83% success rate. Dual site injection, right and left.

We adapted SBG for PTSD

In 2006, Dr. Eugene Lipov, our Chief Medical Officer, pioneered the procedure for use in alleviating PTSD symptoms by reducing amygdala (“fear center”) overactivity. The procedure ‘unsticks’ the brain from the continuous state of fight or flight.

SGB at Stella is the beginning of a journey, not the end.

SGB is an enhancement to a patient’s existing treatment plan. Many providers have expressed that SGB allowed their patients to be more receptive to specific modalities of treatment, which can maximize overall treatment outcomes.
